Sumi + Annie: Brainstorming & Sketches for Floral Inhabitation Project

We chose the painting “Vienne” by Raymond Saunders out of the De Young San Francisco museum gallery because it significantly stood out from the others. From the painting, Sumi and I extended the theme of contrast into the themes of “organic versus geometric” and “darkness versus lightness”. We decided to focus on these two ideas when brainstorming and building our floral inhabitation. The following pictures show our design thinking and brainstorming process.

For our brainstorming process:

  • We decided on our two main themes
  • Looked over project directions, dimensions, and format
  • Browsed the web for inspiration
  • Sketched out some possible designs
  • Decided on the materials used for each component of our design

When we finalized the brainstorm:

  • We calculated the dimensions of our inhabitation
  • Developed a list of materials we need to buy or bring
  • Changed the materials based on our new needs
  • Visited Daiso and several flower shops to determine which flowers would fit our art piece best.
